No work this week

So my week at Rodale didn’t turn out as I had planned. In fact, it didn’t turn out at all. Crossed wires and such resulted in me not working at all for a week. A week’s wages is something I can ill afford to miss. Unfortunately I didn’t make the best of my situation. Mostly I wallowed in self-pity and tried to go about my business.

But what is my business? Am I trying to find a job in a library? Or am I trying to start a freelance librarian business? Either way, I certainly am not interested in working in this office factory (offictory?) anymore. A week’s vacation from that place was wonderful but now I have to go back to work there to earn enough money to eat and pay my rent.

But what did I learn in my week of forced rest? I started by finishing the Mr. Moto boxed set of movies. I decided that WWMMD would be my new motto. What would this Japanese detective do in any given situation? How would he react to what is going on in my life? I cannot do exactly as he would (there will me no killing), but I can follow him and hope to continue learning about finding my stress-free center. I think the key is to believe that everyone you meet is an idiot.

I also indulged myself in re-watching Sir David Attenborough’s Life on Earth series. I remember as a young woman watching his shows and deciding that simply being his personal assistant would be the greatest job in the world. I would carry his notebook and pencils and just have the time of my life.

I am also trying to finish reading Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma. I began reading a while ago and was just too depressed by it. I’m plowing though it this time in the hopes that at the end there is an uplifting message, and then I‘m going right out and growing my own food.
