What to do when you have nothing to do

I haven't been doing much lately except looking for a job. The holidays were pretty awful especially since Harry's health has been deteriorating rapidly. But I have been trying to keep myself busy with some projects like writing and volunteering.

As for things to do to increase my skills as a librarian I have continued to learn about cataloging. I am working on a portfolio of sorts of original cataloging items. I have two music CDs and a couple of books (one fiction) done. I hope to find other things to catalog like DVDs and computer program disks.

I also got a book about GIS (geographic information systems) and I scored an evaluation CD of ArcGIS. I can mess around with it for 60 days. What fun! At school we touched on GIS very very briefly, but it always seemed like something I would want to pursue. I have always loved maps... and I love information... what a great combination!
